Why Australian times differ

  • Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart are on AEDT (UTC+11) in November.
  • Brisbane stays on AEST (UTC+10) all year, so it is one hour behind Sydney while Sydney is on daylight time.
  • Adelaide is on ACDT (UTC+10:30) and Darwin on ACST (UTC+9:30), a half-hour offset in each case.
  • Perth is on AWST (UTC+8), three hours behind Sydney during daylight saving.
  • A midnight pre-load therefore reaches Sydney three hours before it reaches Perth.
