GTA 6 file size

Rockstar, PlayStation and Xbox have not published an official GTA VI download or install size (checked October 28, 2026). A third-party X account, PlayStation Game Size, posted "210 GB" on October 27, and Insider Gaming wrote that it "can corroborate this information" without saying how. Treat about 210GB as a report, not a Rockstar number. Pre-load begins November 12, 2026 at local midnight.

What is officially published about the GTA VI size (nothing), what a third-party account reports (about 210GB), and what that would mean for console storage.

Source boundary: Rockstar facts are marked official; store listings and third-party reports are labeled as such and are not Rockstar announcements. Not a mission walkthrough.

Confirmed now

  • The Rockstar VI page, the Rockstar Store listing, the Rockstar Support platforms page and the PlayStation page do not list a download or install size (checked October 28, 2026).
  • A boxed copy is a download code with no disc (Rockstar Store), so a boxed buyer still downloads the game.
  • Pre-load begins November 12, 2026 (Rockstar Store).

Still unknown

  • Whether 210GB is the real size, and whether it is a download size or an installed size.
  • Which platform the 210GB figure describes: the post does not name one.
  • The size on Xbox Series X|S, and whether it differs by platform.
  • Day-one patch size.
  • Whether Rockstar will state a figure before pre-load opens.

The 210GB report: who said what

  • PlayStation Game Size on X (October 27): An unverified account posted "Grand Theft Auto VI - Download Size: 210 GB - Standard ($79.99)", with pre-load November 12, release November 19 and release time "Midnight". The post names no console and gives no method. It is third-party, not Rockstar.
  • Insider Gaming (October 27): Wrote that the account "revealed that the complete download size" is 210 GB and that Insider Gaming "can corroborate this information". It does not say how, calls the number the install size "at the time of writing", and warns a day-one patch could add more. It does not report any Rockstar confirmation.
  • Push Square (October 2026): Treats it as a PS5 figure from an account that "pretty reliably surfaces the install sizes for games on PS5", and does not verify it independently.

How to read the number

Rockstar has not confirmed 210GB, and neither have PlayStation or Microsoft. Some headlines say the size is confirmed; the articles underneath say it is not. We repeat the figure only with its source and will replace it with the official number once one appears.

If 210GB is right: how much room you need

Conditional on the unconfirmed report. Usable-space figures are press-reported (launch-era measurements), not Sony or Microsoft specifications, and vary by model and system update. Slim Digital models with 825GB (CFI-2100) match the original PS5.

  • PS5, 825GB original

    Usable internal space (reported)
    About 667GB (TechRadar)
    Left after a 210GB install
    About 457GB
  • PS5 Slim, 1TB (disc and earlier digital models)

    Usable internal space (reported)
    About 848GB (Stevivor guide)
    Left after a 210GB install
    About 638GB
  • Xbox Series X, 1TB

    Usable internal space (reported)
    About 802GB (Windows Central)
    Left after a 210GB install
    About 592GB
  • Xbox Series S, 512GB

    Usable internal space (reported)
    About 364GB (GameSpot)
    Left after a 210GB install
    About 154GB

How much to leave free

Leave more than the install size. The download itself and a day-one patch (Insider Gaming says one is possible) need working room, so a margin of 250GB or more free is a sensible target if you want to keep other games installed. That margin is our suggestion, not a Rockstar requirement.

Adding storage

  • PS5 M.2 SSD: Sony lists PCI-Express Gen4x4 NVMe (Key M), 250 GB - 8 TB, and says not to use an M.2 SSD without a heat sink or heat transfer sheet.
  • PS5 USB drive: Sony: to play PS5 games you must move game data from USB extended storage back to console storage or an M.2 SSD, so a USB drive is for storing, not playing.
  • Xbox Storage Expansion Card: Xbox: the card plugs into the Storage Expansion port on the back of Series X|S. USB 3.1 drives can store next-generation games but cannot play games optimized for Series X|S.

Prepare storage now

  • List every game on the console and mark what you can delete or move to external storage.
  • Remove old captures and demos you no longer need.
  • Aim for well over the reported 210GB free before November 12; pre-load and any later update want working room.
  • Check which drive the console installs to by default.
  • If you cannot clear space, buy compatible extra storage before November 12.
