PlayStation Store

PlayStation’s cancel page (checked October 31, 2026): "If you've paid for pre-ordered content on PlayStation Store but have changed your mind about the purchase, you can request a refund. PlayStation Store refunds can be issued for pre-ordered content, as long as the request is made before the release date, or within 14 days of purchase, and the content has not started to download or stream."

Same page: "Please note, if you have started to download the main part of the order, you will not be able to request a refund. Please be aware that downloads will happen automatically if auto-downloads are enabled." Pre-loading is named in the cutoff: paid more than 14 days before release, "You can cancel any time up to the release date if you have not started to download the main part of the pre-order content (including pre-loading before release)." Paid 14 days or less before release, "You can cancel up to 14 days after placing the pre-order" under the same no-download rule.

GTA VI pre-load begins November 12, 2026 at local midnight. If auto-download or pre-load has started the main game, PlayStation’s quoted cutoff has already closed.

Bonus extras: "if you have not started to download the main product and your pre-order included extra content that is made available before the main product release, you will no longer be able to access this extra content if you cancel your pre-order." Digital GTA VI extras on this site are named as including 1 month of GTA+ for digital purchases before November 20, 2026.

How: the refund page (checked October 31, 2026) says "Open your Transaction History and select an eligible transaction," then "Select Request Refund and follow the on-screen instructions." The cancel page also says "To cancel your pre-order, please contact us." "You will receive a refund to the original payment method where possible." The refund FAQ: "You may receive your refund in 30 to 60 days."

Microsoft Store / Xbox

Microsoft’s pre-orders page (checked October 31, 2026): "You can cancel any pre-order online." Steps: "Sign in to your Order history with your Microsoft account and look for the pre-order." Then "Select Cancel and follow the instructions on the screen."

Same page on a billed pre-order: "If you cancel a pre-order after it's billed but before it's released, we'll process it as a refund." When they charge a digital pre-order: "If you use money in your Microsoft account, we'll charge you right away. If you use any other payment option, including payment backup, we may charge you up to 10 days before the release date."

The cancel-order page (checked October 31, 2026): "You can cancel one or more items in a Microsoft Store order or preorder before you're charged or before the item has shipped." Path: Order history at account.microsoft.com/billing/orders, then "Select Cancel item next to the item you want to cancel. If you don't see this option, you've already been charged for the item, but you can request an exchange or refund."

Xbox games specifically: "If you don't see the Cancel Item option to cancel an Xbox purchase (such as a game), it may be because you've been billed for the order or because the order has already shipped. In this scenario, go to the Request an Xbox refund webform."

Microsoft’s apps-and-games refund page (checked October 31, 2026) is stricter for digital goods in general: "Digital goods like apps, games, add-on content, subscriptions, movies, TV shows, and books aren't refundable unless the offer or applicable law states that you're eligible for a refund." For Xbox titles it still points you to "Request a refund for digital games." "When you request a refund, it may take 72 hours to process the request." "Refunds are generally processed within 3–5 business days and are applied to the original payment option."
